November 3, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC --- Top communications policy and business publisher Pike & Fischer (P&F), a subsidiary of The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc. announced today that it will acquire broadband media analysis and publishing company Broadband Intelligence, Inc. in a strategic shift that moves P&F into the dynamic, high-growth realm of new media technology and business development.

Founded in 1999, Broadband Intelligence has earned the respect of leading communications technology, content and distribution providers by performing high-quality, well-written research on the high-speed Internet, interactive TV, and packet-switched telephony businesses. BI's flagship product, Broadband Daily, a web-based subscription newsletter, has become a must-read for top executives in the cable, telephone, satellite, wireless, programming and tech vendor arenas, delivering concise and timely insight on key developments shaping the rapidly growing broadband world.

BI's founder and President, Cynthia Brumfield, will join P&F's senior management team as Director of the Communications Media Analysis Group, a new group within P&F that will publish Broadband Daily and launch new analysis newsletters and special reports covering key sectors of the broadband businesses. The Media Analysis Group will also establish P&F Advisory Services, a new consulting arm that will deliver knowledgeable and timely research and analysis services to top media and communications clients.

Ms. Brumfield is a veteran media and communication industry analyst, having served as a Senior Analyst at Paul Kagan Associates, V.P. of Research and Policy Analysis at the National Cable & Telecommunications Association and Director of Research for The Media Institute before founding Broadband Intelligence.

"We're proud to add such a topflight publication as Broadband Daily to our product line-up and such a well-respected analyst as Cynthia Brumfield to our team," P&F President Joe Hecker said. "Pike & Fischer is universally regarded among attorneys, public policy makers and corporate decision-makers as the primary resource on cable and telecom regulatory matters. With this acquisition and the creation of the Communications Media Analysis Group under Cynthia's direction, we aim to become the premiere resource for analysis and information on the all-important broadband sector. Our current regulatory expertise combined with Cynthia's deep market-based insight added to BNA's tremendous resources is a sterling combination."

"I look forward to shepherding Pike & Fischer's entrance into this vibrant new line of publications and advisory services. Now is the time to lay the groundwork for the broadband revolution, which encompasses every communication technology," P&F Group Publisher Meg Hargreaves said.

"Pike & Fischer and BNA have solid, unshakeable reputations in producing publications that leaders rely on and readers respect," said Cynthia Brumfield, President of Broadband Intelligence. "I look forward to not only maintaining the high-caliber of Broadband Daily as I become part of this tradition, but also enhancing our coverage and creating new products that deliver the information and analysis needed by corporate decision-makers."

Following P&F's acquisition of Broadband Intelligence, Broadband Daily will expand its coverage, leveraging the journalists, lawyers and other professionals at P&F and BNA who follow the varied communications media, as well as new staff brought on board to help develop the new media products and advisory services.
